Barry is a retired judge, internationally respected leader in multiparty conflict resolution, and trailblazer in using peacemaking circles over the last 40 years.

Barry’s work focuses on resolving disputes, consensus-building, and organizational change in both the public and private sector. He has worked as a lawyer, mediator, facilitator, policy analyst, law professor, chief land claims negotiator, and judge. He played a leading role in shaping environmental law in the 1970s in Canada. Barry received an honorary doctor of laws degree from York University and Osgoode Hall Law School in 2014 for his expansive career and ground-breaking work in consensus building and innovative dispute resolution.

He is co-author of Peacemaking Circles: From Crime to Community (2003).

Barry is the former Chief Judge of the Territorial Court of Yukon, where he worked closely with First Nations bringing circles into court and court into the community. Barry was adopted into the Carcross Tagish First Nation.

It’s not possible to list all his contributions over his long career! Barry was born in Montreal in 1943.
